Abertillery and District Hospital was a community hospital in Aberbeeg, near Abertillery with approximately 91 full and part-time staff. It was latterly operated by the Aneurin Bevan Local Health Board. It was founded in 1922 and closed in 2008. It had 52 beds in three ward areas: *Gilbert Strachen Ward had 18 beds, providing respite care, long-term inpatient care and interim care to patients waiting to move to residential or nursing homes. *John Dunlop Ward had 16 beds managed by local general practitioners and by the nursing staff where no medical intervention is required *Cwmnant Ward had 18 beds, providing care for the elderly mentally ill The NHS hospital was closed in 2008. The hospital building is Grade II listed.
